I love the Osprey Poco LT child backpack carrier (Amazon) and here is why:
When I was pregnant with my first child my husband and I decided that we were going to spend as much time as possible outside, traveling, and exploring with our kids. We wanted for them to grow up with lots of memories of our family adventures.
We started hiking with my daughter when she was about 2 months old. It took a lot of convincing from my husband to get me to go on our first hike with my newborn but I am so glad he did. At first hiked with her in the Ergobaby Omni 360 All-Position Baby Carrier (Amazon). She loved it and we felt she was safe and secure in there.

By the time she was 6 months old we had been on countless hikes, flown on half a dozen airplanes, taken multiple road trips, and visited 3 states and it was time to upgrade to something more sturdy and robust. We spent a lot of time looking for the perfect baby backpack carrier for hiking and ultimately decided on the Osprey Poco LT (Amazon) child backpack carrier. We chose this one for a few reasons.
- Weight – It is one of the lightest backpack carriers on the market. It only weighs 5.36 lbs! Comparable carriers are over 7 lbs. 2 lbs difference may not seem like a lot but when you’re carrying a 30 lb toddler up a mountain those 2 lbs matter.
- Safety – Osprey is a trusted and highly regarded brand. We felt confident that this was a well-engineered and safe product for our child.
- Comfort – Comfort was important for not only us but for our child as well. This carrier is really comfortable to wear and is adjustable so both my husband and I can use it comfortable and we can use it with both our todddler and our infant.
- Durability and longevity – Baby carriers are not cheap and we wanted to invest in something that was going to last us a long time. We wanted something that would grow with our child and something we could use for future children. This carrier holds children from 16 lbs to 40 lbs. It easily holds our 8 month old son and our almost 3 year old daughter.
- Compact – We have limited storage space so we needed a baby backpack carrier that would be fold down. We also wanted something that would fit in a standard checked back so we can bring it with us on trips. This carrier checks both of those boxes. We travel with it in a 32″ (100 liter) duffle bag (Amazon) and check it on the airplane.
- Storage – This hiking backpack carrier for babies and toddlers has great storage space. We’re able to pack up everything we need for a day of adventuring.
The Osprey Poco LT (Amazon) is, in my opinion, one of the best baby backpack carriers on the market and it is definitely worth the investment!
